Ouelessebougou

Kurt and I had the opportunity to attend a charity event over the weekend, the Ouelessebougou Utah Alliance. It was held at the Little America hotel. They held a live auction and silent auction. We also enjoyed a yummy dinner...but the best part of the night was hearing from the Ambassador of Mali. He shared several stories of how the people of Mali may suffer with poverty...but you will always see a smile on their faces. This organization has been around since 1985. A bunch of people from Utah, traveled to Africa and toured the whole continent to find the poorest area, and that area would be their focus. That area was Ouelessebougou in Mali. Since then they raise money for these people for simple things we take for granted, such as school supplies, mosquito nets, clean drinking wells, vaccinations. Even though the auction was fun, we came away from that event feeling very humble and thankful for what we take for granted. I also came home and gave my kids a huge hug, feeling pretty sad for the children in Ouelessebougou and the other countries.
